A new type of exam table is making it easier for patients in wheelchairs. Carilion's Wound Care Center is doing a study on the system, known as the chair-a-table.
This invention allows patients to connect their wheelchairs directly to table so they never have to leave the chair. Dr. James Foster believes it will cut down on transfer injuries and put less work on staff to try and lift patients.
The data Carilion collects will be used as feedback for the manufacturer. The results will also be sent to the Food and Drug Administration for marketing approval of the system.
