Mission
There is no safe or dignified way to transfer patients from wheelchairs to examination tables. Over two-thirds of wheelchair users have difficulty accessing examination tables. This contributes to nearly 100,000 wheelchair accidents per year. Lifting patients from wheelchairs to examination tables is a leading cause of injury and missed work for nursing staffs around the world. Worker compensation claims due to lifting patients resulted in over $1 billion in 2005 and contributes significantly to health care costs. The mission of Martin Innovations is to successfully meet the needs of people with disabilities and ultimately prevent disabilities while caring for the disabled.
Martin Innovations
Martin Innovations is a dynamic startup company with a proprietary medical examination table that couples with a wheelchair. This permits disabled patients to be moved to an examination table without leaving their seat. The same lifting mechanism will be used to produce a comprehensive line of products for lifting and transporting people with disabilities. From morning to night, every time a person needs to be moved, a Martin Innovations product will be available to make the move safe, simple and easy.
Dr. Willis Martin - CEO and Founder
With over 30 years of clinical experience in dermatology, Dr. Martin has experienced first hand the problems and shortcomings when caring for patients. This motivated him to find unique ways to assist patients and caregivers to make their lives easier in every way. With an undying commitment to the medical industry, Martin Innovations heavily funds Research and Development to continue to improve existing products and discover new medical breakthroughs. The first of these being the Martin Wheelchair and the Martin Exam Table.
Michael Zapata III - President
Michael is an active local investor and entrepreneur who also serves the College of Management at NC State as the TEC Entrepreneur-in-Residence, assisting with the creation and launching of technology businesses built on applied research from within North Carolina’s universities and regionally headquartered companies. He is also Chairman of ArrayXpress, a genomics sciences company, Chairman of HueMetrix, an instrumentation company, Executive Chairman of Protochips, a semiconductor company, and serves on the board of several regional non-profits. Michael is a Lieutenant Colonel and served as a combat aviation officer in the NC Army National Guard.
